There is a feature I’d love to see on Cellar Tracker - one that seems to be quite in line with many of the other features already there.
As I read the reviews posted by the members there, I often put a mental highlight on a wine or two, stating that I should perhaps pull it from the cellar and pop it open soon - based on the reviews I’ve been reading.
It’s similar to a wishlist, and even sort of similar to the drinkability report, but not quite either one. It’s a wishlist for consuming wine, and it would be tremendous to ‘tag’ it in some way, quickly, as you are on the wine page, as one to put on the hot list for drinking. Then, when I don’t know what wine to have, I could easily consult my ‘hot list’ for what to open!
Todd, the site already has this. The “Wishlist” feature is just one ‘canned’ version of what the site refers to as a ‘tagged list.’ When you see a wine name there should be an icon of a finger with a string tied around it. Click this icon and a window pops up. By default the destination list will be “Wishlist” but in fact you can add a new name and thus create a different tagged list. There is no limit to the number of such tagged lists you can create, and whatever they denote is up to you.
So what you want to make is a “Drink soon” list.
The one thing the site does NOT do right now with these lists is noticed when you are buying/drinking a wine on the list and give the option to remove it from the list. And maybe I will eventually let you set a property on a list to indicate whether it is consumption or acquisition oriented.
Give me a radio button on the page for a particular wine, please! I am a luddite! Seriously, it would be nice to just hit a button (“add to Drink Queue”) as I browse my wines and have the wine show up in a list once I hit another radio button called “Drink Queue”.
I would like to be able to read about a wine and have one sample bottle appear in my physical cellar and in my CT inventory. I would also like to be able to automatically generate an insightful tasting note on a dinner’s wines while enjoying after-dinner coffee and dessert and have that TN appear simultaneously on my blog and on all forums on which I participate.
I’m willing to wait for the next big update as I don’t want to delay the release of the new UI. Thanks.
When you are on the page for a wine you can either:
Click the icon at the top of the page that looks like a finger with a string.
Partway down the page is “Wishlist and tagged lists: Click to add this to my wishlist”
If you click on “Click to add this to my wishlist” a dialog pops up. By default “*Wishlist” will be picked in the list dropdown, but you can just pick “Drink Queue” or enter “Drink queue” in the edit control to add a new list.
The next-generation UI is hopefully going to make all of this a lot more visible and obvious.
My current solution is that I’ve added a few new locations for wines. In a way, putting “cellar” as the location for the wine was kinda useless. I rely on the bin field to know exactly where in the cellar the wine lives.
So I added locations called “Drink Now” and “Try Soon”. I have saved reports for each of these, broken down by varietal. So if I want a rhone blend I can go to the “Drink Now” report, scroll to rhone varietals, and have the list in front of me.
apologies for adding another wishlist item but a feature I would like (unless it’s already there and I haven’t found it) is on the home page where the new TNs of wines currently in my cellar appear… I’d like to be able to ‘tag’ a wine so its TN do not appear on this page even if it’s in my cellar. e.g. I received a Kim Crawford SB as a gift and it seems every third TN is for this wine…I’m ready to just delete it from my account or pour it out so I don’t see another TN on the home page.
Also, I’d like to be able to ‘tag’ a wine that isn’t in my cellar so a newly added TN does show on the home page when posted…e.g. I would tag this when drinking the bottle as I might want to see TNs aftewards.
