A pool sipper and a dinner wine (see inside). Have a question.

I’m headed to my cousin for the annual family BBQ this Sunday. I’m in charge of the wine.

Dinner will be sea bass with a soy type sauce and steak.

I’m bring 2 whites:

2006 Domaines Schlumberger Riesling Saering

and

2008 Scholium Project Naucratis Lost Slough Vineyards

Which of the above should we sip poolside, and which should we enjoy with dinner?

FYI, the red is 2006 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Home Ranch.

Posted exclusively on WB.

Naucratis poolside

Schlumberger (much higher acid, more geared for food) with food.

X2

I will be interested in reading the Home Ranch cab notes…

Riesling

Minerals showing. You could detect a hint of sweetness. This certainly isn’t your college riesling. My cousin (who is striving to reach my level of wine knowledge [shock.gif] ) made inquiries of this wine. Enjoyed with salmon at dinner. Glad I have another bottle.

Scholium

This was rich and silky right out of the bottle. We all thought it was tasty (especially at less than $17). This wine tasted expensive. Glad I have more in the cellar.

Sojourn

This was the wine of the day. On opening I smelled and tasted chocolate. This was rich and substantive. Really tasty. At the 40 minute mark, this got really smooth, with a hint of spice. My cousin thought it was a syrah (he’s trying). At 90 minutes, it was smoking. Sorry I don’t have any more at home, but happy I have several of Craigs pinots sleeping.
For a wine in the mid $30’s, it tasted like something more expensive. [welldone.gif]

That has a nice ring to it…

Melissa,

I’ve posted exclusives several times. Maybe others that are posting exclusively should do the same. Can you imagine how great it looks to the regulars (and outsiders) when they read this.
