We’ve been going through quite a bit of Champagne and sparkling wines the last couple of months. My wife has been on a champagne path to enlightenment and I’ve enjoyed the journey. We sabered a cheap Cava that turned out to be a great surprise to drink and then popped a Segura Viudas. Even through the bubbles it is so pronounced it gives me a that nasty TCA twinge…corked, and back to Total Wine in the morning.

I have yet to experience a single definitely corked wine out of the endless number of wines I’ve popped at home in the past few years. I would say I’m immune to TCA, but I did attend a tasting where a corked wine was opened and passed around for “educational purposes”, and I did clearly smell the nasty wet cardboard. Who knows…
That was something I had to try at least once.
