A Lovely Spaniard

I had a good one last night.

2004 Miguel Merino Rioja Gran Reserva. Deep garnet stone color. There were steady aromas of smoke, black cherry and oak. Round entry. There were just no edges and the presentation gave it a polished mouth feel. The flavor profile largely echoed the aromas and was redolent of smoke, black cherry, dark chocolate and oak. The oak was not a dominant theme, rather added to the complexity. This was in fine form. Balanced. Long. Medium body. Modern. I’m looking forward to the next one. 92-93.

Purchased from K & L. They still have a couple of cases for sale at $39.99.
