After spending the morning with Trey at Sleight of Hand I have a new appreciation of the Walla Walla AVA. Time spent in his vineyards was a lesson in the histroy and geology of the area. And his wines are a showcase for the region. So good. Trey also recommended some excellent restaurants: Hattaway’s and Bar Bacetto. And we enjoyed visits at Rotie Cellars and Devison. Time well spent.

Trey is a great voice for WA wines overall and in particular Walla Walla and surrounding areas.
He does make some darn good wines too, which stood out for you?

I liked everything I tried, but the syrahs stood out for me. They are so different from the Cali central coast bruisers, but without the overpowering Cayuse funk. The closest thing to Northern Rhone style I’ve found in the new world. I bought some Spiders from Mars and Off He Goes.

I just had Sleight of Hand at the Rhône Rangers event in McMinnville today. The wines were stellar. I got to meet @larry_schaffer and chatted with Vincent. All the wines I tasted showed well!! Foxen, Clne, Quadry North, Troon, some mags of 2013 Hedges. If they come to your town— GO!

I meant Larry many years ago. Like Trey, he is an ambassidor for his stomping grounds.. If you have no idea about Santa Barbaera Couty wines, just stop by the Tercero tasting room in Los Olivos. You’ll be informed.
