Some good friends were moving back to the UK after a long stay in the States. Another wonderful dinner at the Bristol (great spot if you’re ever in Chicago). Just one of those evenings where the food, wine and conversation all hit the right notes.
Opening wine 2009 Bruno Clair Marsannay “Les Vaudenelles”…I am not a Burgundy expert but really enjoyed this wine. The word “pure” kept coming to mind and the palate was cold crunchy fruit.
Next up was 1998 Pegau CDP…loved this wine. Clean bottle, no brett. Nose and palate were all the classic garrigue flavors. It kept unfolding in the glass but it didn’t last long.
Final up was 1989 Cos d"Estournel…a nicely aged bordeaux, graphite and cassis. Tannins nicely integrated but enough presence that this will age for another couple of year.
Then bumped into some fellow Berserkers in the resturant…got to taste 2001 Henri Bonneau Reserve des Celestins and 2010 Sine Qua Non Five Shooter Syrah. Not a bad night!
