A few days in Burgundy / May 2014

This year I’ve made it only in May to Burgundy, my wife and I have spent 5 nights in Burgundy in transit to the south of France.

Since my wine preferences are not yet clear for you from my previous postings: I admire great Riesling, austrian Veltliner, matured Bordeaux and I had some of the greatest wine experiences with Syrah’s from the northern Rhone and really fantastic Barolo - but I love Burgundy. The more I drink wine, the more attention get the whites and much as I love red Burgundy, the greatest and most unique wonders of the wine-world are great white wines of Burgundy.

Fortunately it is less than 5 hours from Frankfurt to Beaune and so i have normally several times a year the opportunity to visit this wonderful area.
For this visit we had booked a small house in a fantastic location in the heart of Beaune. Below is the link to the provider, the house is perfect for two people, perfect situated, offers a parking lot, it’s a small house with a great and tasteful decor, a vaulted cellar and an enormously sympathetic host.

I wanted to do only a few tastings to sample both, some of my favorite wines, and also visit a few new winemaker for me from the second row, in order to assess their wines and try to still find affordable Burgundys.

I had appointments on the following Domaines and will post some impressions in the next few days in an occasional series:

Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet
Domaine Guy Roulot, Meursault
Domaine JanotsBos (JanotsBos | Burgundy Wine Makers), Meursault
Domaine Alain Michelot (Nuits-Saint-Georges)
Domaine Michel Gros (Vosne-Romanee)
Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy (Gevrey-Chambertin)
Domaine Jean-Michel Guillon (Gevrey-Chambertin)

There were of course some nice restaurant meals and some nice wines on the spot, if I can still reconstruct, there will be also some descriptions.

Here a few photos in advance:

Nice pictures. I love Burgundy!

Great pictures Marko. I couldn’t agree more on the Whites of Burgundy.

Awesome photos. I took the liberty to visit your online gallery. Drouhin should buy those pics from you for the website. They’re friggin’ great shots. What are you shooting with? Thanks for the post.

wonderful pictures thanks for posting.

thank you !
most of the pics i shot with a Nikon D7100, different lenses, mostly Nikkor 35mm/1.8 and 85mm/1.8.

Thanks. I appreciate your note on the lenses. They are to photos what grapes are to wine. The camera is the cellar. Awesome use of manual focus. Bravo for switching off the autopilot.

I can’t wait to read your notes on the remaining wines. There are some stunning bottles in those pics.

love the pictures
