2001 Arcadian Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (9/30/2009)
13.6% alcohol. Youthful and pretty. Red cherry color. Bright nose of red cherry, blackberry, spice, earth, and a flowers. In the mouth, linear and concentrated, with mostly a red fruited profile. Loads of complexity. Bright acidity. Long finish. In a good place but will develop more secondary characteristics down the road. A- -
2002 DuMOL Pinot Noir Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/30/2009)
14.5% alcohol. This has held up beautifully. Youthful black cherry color. Fragrant nose of blackberry, light spice, and minerals. In the mouth, plush and concentrated, with a blackberry and blackberry jam edge to the fruit. The complexity isn’t profound, but it’s juicy and tasty, with good acidity. A touch of oak still lingers on the finish, which is solid. A- -
1999 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (9/29/2009)
13.6% alcohol. Slightly faded black cherry color, but not showing any bricking. A bit of funk on the nose initially that quickly blew off. It revealed a pretty Pinot. The fruit is lovely sour cherry with a touch of darker cherry behind it. Forest floor, spice, and a plush richness come across on the palate, with light acidity. Solid finish that leaves a sour cherry pie note in your mouth that is quite pleasing. Somehow it doesn’t quite put it all together to reach the level of a profound wine, but it is tasty and enjoyable for sure. A- -
2000 Arcadian Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (9/13/2009)
13.4% alcohol. This was absolutely gorgeous. One of the most attractive Pisoni Pinots I’ve ever drunk, up there with the terrific 1998 and 1999 Siduris, but in a somewhat different style. This was classic Arcadian. Red cherry color. Gorgeous bouquet of red cherry, rich spice and earth, minerals, and a floral edge. In the mouth, incredible purity of fruit. Gorgeous red cherry supported by flowers, minerals, and earthy spice. Bright acidity. Tremendous finish that sailed on beautiful. An elegant, pure, and balanced wine that had all the fruit and texture you want. It’s really evolved the past couple years. A-/A
