A few botts

  • 1973 Château Léoville Las Cases - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (8/15/2014)
Has a dank, waterlogged fruit kind of smell at first that dissipates somewhat in the glass. There are greener notes of capsicum and tobacco that weave through the aroma and flavour profile. The nose is not terribly engaging but the palate is quite pleasant with fresh red berry fruits that are lively and detailed. Tannins have all but disappeared and there’s some brisk acidity that punctuates the finish.
  • 2010 Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT (8/14/2014)
Sealed under screwcap this is really tight when first poured. It breathes up to show plenty of warm berry fruit coupled with a little spicy oak and some liquorice. It is dense and sappy and quite polished. The finish is carried by sweet, spherical tannins but one is left with a savoury impression once the wine is swallowed.
  • 2011 Cecile Tremblay Bourgogne La Croix Blanche - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (8/14/2014)
There are ripe cherry fruits strewn with a potpourri of dried flowers. It has mineral and reasonable structure for its level and is quite a delicious wine of character.
  • 2012 Catherine et Claude Maréchal Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru (8/14/2014)
This is more compact and tighter than the Village version but it has more intensity and is built for the cellar. There is beautiful cherry fruit coupled with a little flora and pungent minerality. It is direct with excellent detail and is a wine of great harmony and elegance.
  • 1971 Domaine Prieur-Brunet Meursault 1er Cru Charmes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (8/13/2014)
Pours out quite a developed golden colour but has an amazing nose full of fresh fruits. It smells of guava, rockmelon, paw paw and smoke. There is a light prosciutto meatiness and some toast and mushroom development. In the mouth it has some citrus flavour and earth/savoury nuance. It is just drying out a tad and finishes with piercing grapefruit acidity.
  • 2008 Maison Roche de Bellene Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru (8/8/2014)
A little too nutty and quite heavy on the crème brulee action. Has some blossom, ripe peach and custard apple notes as well. It is buttery rich with creamy fruit and layers of flavour but the acidity is just a tad tart and sits off the fruit a bit. A big, powerful wine but a rather disappointing Montrachet.
  • 2012 Château Pegaü Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Maclura - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (8/7/2014)
You get some coffee and sweet meats on the nose along with raspberries and dried flowers. It is full and rich in the mouth and just a little wild and funky. This is old school winemaking with plenty of flavor and a delicious velvety texture.
  • 1997 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (8/6/2014)
Highly perfumed aromatics of citrus blossom and mandarin peel. It is just taking on some toasty development. Rich and textured palate with a hint of buuter and loads of citrus. It is full and voluminous with great presence and a clean bright finish.
