Thought I’d follow Paul Seah’s lead and pop a few 01’s this week.

2001 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (8/21/2014)
The 01 RSV is nowhere near ready, this is just entering prime time. You get a little meat and earth on the aroma. It has lovely, fleshy sweet cherry fruit and a cool cherry stone heart. It is full and lacy with decent volume and nice minerally cut to the finish. -
2001 Henri Bonnefoy Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru (8/19/2014)
Poured out quite a golden colour and was decidedly nutty. It took an age to get going, tightened up but then blossomed into a most delicious Montrachet. There were notes of smoke, spiced pear, vanilla and cream. It was rich and layered in the mouth with a strong citrus fruit spine. It really sweetened up at its heart and was expansive and very long. -
2001 Joseph Drouhin Romanée St. Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru (8/19/2014)
A generous gift from Steve Doi when we were in Tokyo early last year. Really tight at first showing only just a bare whiff of camphor and pine needle sap. It is dense and concentrated with plenty of muscle and only releases its grip right towards the end of the bottle when some engaging red berry and cherry fruits come to the fore coupled with a wonderful note of fresh lilies. It feels like a wine that is still far too young.
