A et P Villaine Bourgogne Rouge La Digoine, 2012

The above is being offered at $40 a pop. Obviously, I know who makes it, but I never have tasted. Input is most welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

It’s a Borgogne rouge…it is what it is. I buy their Mercurey Les Montots in good years and I’m happy with that, but as the price creeps up I think it’s going to get harder to justify when there are amazing wines for less. It’s a lighter style and a wine that rewards people that treat their wines like Europeans. If…you buy this. I’d cellar it for 3-4 years before pulling the cork.

What Kirk said. These wines are good everyday drinkers but can be cellared (and, for this 2012, ideally should for 2-3 years). I usually prefer the Montots to this wine. $40 looks a little high compared with the pricing here but I would expect the price to continue to rise for this house because they are great QPR.

+1 for a preference for the Mercurey Les Montots. In other years, I prefer the Bourgogne “La Digoine” to the Bourgogne “La Fortune”, but in 2012 I preferred the “La Fortune” (and of course the Mercurey Les Montots). I found the 2012 Bourgogne La Digoine to be a bit wishy-washy and blurry, by far not on par with e.g. the 2010. I passed on it.

We just imbibed an 05 Digoine with dinner tonight. Very nice for a labeled regional, but at current pricing, not really a bargain. Piling on, the Montots seems to me to have a good wallop more substance, for about the same tariff, though you are obliged wait longer for the return.

Hey, good to hear the '05 Digoine may be worth a try now. When I buy this I like to drink part of a case on release then wait 10 years for the rest. A couple of years ago it was still shut down. To me that is what sets this wine apart - I have no qualms about aging it, and it can benefit significantly.

Steven I agree with you, have had the '12 Digoine a couple of times in the last week (not the others), and it was pleasant but just as you described, and not nearly as good as '09 and '10.
