A decent $6 sparkling wine

I saw the RSVP sparkling wine at Trader Joe’s for $5.99, and my initial reaction was that it probably wasn’t very good. But then some friends who I know like Champagne told me they tried it and found it good. So I bought a bottle.

Lots of fresh apple and a bit of pear, with just a bit of yeastiness. Very good midpalate acidity, with no off-aromas or flavors. Good, clean finish.

This isn’t going to knock anyone’s socks off, but it’s really a nice quaffing, sparkling wine. Great QPR at $6. Good for everyday sipping, mimosas, and large parties without a high label-conscious wine geek quotient.

My opinions are already known on this topic.

Sure wish this thread would have been posted exclusively on WB. neener

If they run out of that wine, the Zardetto Prosecco is another good alternative at $12-$13 level. The big difference is no yeastiness and that coated tongue feeling you get on many Champagnes isn’t there. The Prosecco is crisp and fresh, going well with many cheeses and vegetables and as a bonus, is superb in a mimosa.

Bruce, I stopped at TJ’s today and picked up a bottle on your recommendation. Well, I have to say that your notes are spot on. It has a clean taste throughout. I did not get the slight yieasty notes but agree 100% with the rest of it. To me it tastes like a nice delicate Chardonnay with bubbles, very nice. Will I buy again? You bet.

I grabbed a bottle too but haven’t tried it. It will probably get sabered tonight.

Tonite (New Years EVe), drank 2 of these quite successfully against a Gloria Ferrer 2002 Royal Cuvee and a Chas Heidseck Blue Label (NV).

They all told their story, but for $6??? Sheesh. Quite fine.

Tomorrow it goes into the OJ for brunch! [dance-clap.gif]

And this weekend I go back to TJ’s for another case.
