A Day Of Burgundy- Lafon, Roumier, Bachelet, Leroy and more

My day of Burgundy started at 2 p.m. at Mozza and continued into the night. Just a lovely day!

2006 Morey St.-Denis “Clos de la Bussière” - 2nd time with this wine which showed pure Morey character with lots of cherries and minerals on a medium intense finish. I think this wine is a bit shut down but it was still very good. Won’t open another bottle for another 8+ years

2006 Bachelet Gevrey Chambertin- Lots of dark fruits and depth in a strong medium finish that is superb for a village wine. This will only get better. I really liked this.

1996 Leroy Nuits St. Georges “Aux Lavières”- This wine coated my mouth with lots of earth, spice, subtle fruit and minerals for days. Looks like this is now entering it’s drinking window and is ready now but will hold for many years to come. This is a gorgeous wine!

2002 Lafon Volnay “Santenots du Milieu” - This wine is powerful and young. Earth, Iron and dark seductive fruits are beginning to emerge on a long intense finish. This wine isn’t going to enter it’s drinking window for another 15+ years. Superb wine and fun to try.

1997 Jadot Bonnes Mares- Oh my! Dark powerful sexy fruit emerged instantly out of the glass. This is a beauty of a wine with a finish that went on and on. This is a big Bonnes Mares and very impressive for the vintage…

1995 Groffier Chambolle-Musigny “Les Amoureuses”- Classic seductive Amoureuses nose with dark cherry and strawberry notes with a hint of minerality. The fruit in this wine really shined but the finish was a bit short.

Thanks Leah.
Those Lafon reds are certainly extracted and in need of time.

You guys rocked it!

Carey had a blast, thanks.

Those Bachelets are just gorgeous, aren’t they? Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like you Mozza folks had a great afternoon. Sorry I couldn’t join you.

Bruce

Groffier, IMO, is still one of the most underrated producers in Burgundy. Some great premier cru and grand cru stuff!
