Hey guys, wanted to share a little update. I was hesitant to mention it, but a few have asked for updates. While I was in Burgundy earlier this year, I met up with Olivier Leflaive. He put me in touch with the winemaker who is sharing his facility with me in Beaune. Just recently Olivier offered me a spot to work for him in the cellar in Puligny Montrachet.
I see now reason why you should be hesitant to mention updates. I think most (if not all) of us would love to hear how it’s going. Maybe even use this thread as one long update as to what’s happening?
Thanks! I will be with Olivier for at least two months, but I will be living in Burgundy a good while for my wines. I am hoping to find work in the vineyards early next year as well.
Ray, I have to say, you’re taking this “wine geek gets into the business” thing to a whole different level. I’m gearing up for my first, small commercial production here in Oregon this fall. But what you’re doing is absolutely inspirational. Best of luck. I can’t help but know you’ll be successful.
Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I’ll be sure to keep you all posted on the updates. Of note, here is a few pics of the ‘backup’ facility in Beaune…next move is either wooden foudres or barrels. I will be needing both after all.
not sure if I want to lease the house

inside cuverie, note the lift…my back may be saved!
bad pic, but it looks better in person
one more cave shot before I bore anyone
There is lots of cleaning to be done to make it look nice. But, its an excellent backup. It is reserved just in case my big hookup falls through.
Just picked up a case each of O Leflaive 04 Folatieres and Champ Gain at a stunning price. How much work does the winery do with the vineyards they source. Any insight into the house style?
Thanks Jim, no idea on house style. I had about 35 of them while there. But, mainly from recent vintages. They do a lot of work in the vineyards. I will most likely try to give him a hand next year. Thanks for checking out the thread. I tried to keep the facility part to myself but its gettin pretty exciting.
