A couple of old red Burgs

  • 1962 Louis Latour Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Marconnets - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru (6/28/2014)
Smells of coffee, compost, undergrowth and what can best be described as black earth. Given Tom Blach’s penchant for old Louis Latour wines I may refer to this smell as Blach earth in future. It is vinous and sweet in the mouth with plenty of coffee and chocolate and some salty iodine notes. Acidity is gentle and length of flavour decent.
  • 1957 M. Doudet-Naudin Nuits St. Georges - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges (6/22/2014)
Labelled as ‘Baudot’, wondering it it’s a ‘Boudots’? It is very good. Starts off smelling of chocolate, cold tea, brown sugar and pine needle sap. It freshens with air and is quite full with a vinous sweetness and plenty of savoury nuance. The finish is quite salty and long.

fun stuff. Thanks for reporting. Probably cost $1 per bottle or less.
