2011 Two Vintners Syrah Stoney Vine Vineyard - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (6/20/2014)
I thought this wine was spectacular and superior to the 2010 Proper that many were raving about last year, including myself. It was lush and balanced with fantastic deep fruit matched by the WA rocks super funk. The texture was fantastic and the finish echoed the delicious red and blueberry fruit and the bacon olive funky goodness for almost a minute. There was an almost rich and sweet florality that added lift and great complexity to the overall experience. This wine was delicious and endlessly drinkable. Will try to find more, but with only 100 cases produced, those of us on the east coast may be out of luck. Great now with an hour of air, will be better in a year or two. (94 pts.) -
2011 Lauren Ashton Cellars Cuvée Mirabelle - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (6/25/2014)
Still extremely young but showing beautifully - this wine was a stunner. On the nose, herbaceous red fruit fruit is followed by notes of white pepper, licorice and minty game. On the palate, the subtle and thoughtfully complex nose explodes and expands to a surprising full bodied red and blue berry explosion of delicious with great acid and length. Totally drinkable, totally primary and completely fantastic this wine was consumed over the course of 4 hours and was best for the last glass. While great now, this will be even better in a few years. 55% grenache, 40% syrah and 5% mouvedre and only 103 cases were produced. (94 pts.)
