'99 Baron de la Charrière Volnay Clos des Chênes

1999 Baron de la Charrière Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes Vieilles Vignes, alc 13%, $40…nice underbrush/forest nose…this opens up nicely with dark fruit and a significant intensity…almost jammy but not in an overripe way but more of a fresh fruit compote…the tannins are only moderate at most… drinks as if it younger than the stated age…really showing well and matched mushroom soup very well…

(Apparently this is the same wine as that bottled under the Vincent Girardin label)

Thanks for posting your note. Sounds like a pretty nice wine (burgundy at that) for $40.

Is this label still extant? I don’t recall seeing it in recent vintages. It was an Eric Solomon label I think.

These wines were terrific values. Still have fond memories of some vintages of the 1990’s from the Cote de Beaune.

Picked this out of a bargain bin years ago, two. Fun bottles, great pricing, love Volnay.
