I saved half the bottle into an empty 375 and then slow-O-ed the remaining half bottle for 3 - 4 hours. I think this made a huge difference in the way the wine presented itself, as I was less impressed with another bottle some months ago where I did not give the wine as much air time, plus the half-filled bottle aerated more quickly and more efficiently than a full bottle would.
What struck me first were the lovely perfumed aromas - excellent pure Vosne fruit. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, with elegance and balance. Just a bit more acidity than “perfect” perhaps, as may be the case with other '96s. Still, a lovely wine that showed this well, I think, because of the aeration, which helped deepen the medium-bodied fruit to better balance the acidity. Tannins pretty much completely resolved, still, the wine should last and improve for many years yet.
