Last night a good friend came over to watch the Lakers with me…in addition to getting out of control, we managed to cook up some NY Strip Steaks, roasted some Yukon gold potatoes and some spinach with bacon. He brought over the 94 Dominus and I contributed the 97 Cornerstone “Black Sears Vyd” Cab. Then we opened a 2007 Roar Syrah “Rosellas” then we got into a heated debate about the age of Catherine Zeta Jones, which according to Wikipedia is 40 this year - he still doesn’t believe me. Then we broke a glass sending wine all over the rug in the living room…Damn, how am I going to explain that one.
The 94 Dominus was very good but no where near a 99 pt experience on this night. Nose was gamey, with leather and tar. Palate was showing some acid, leather, dark/truffley fruit but it could have used a little more punch through the midpalate. Very nice, very bdx like and probably 92/100
the 1997 Cornerstone Cellars “Black Sears Vineyard” was richer with gamey dark fruit, creosote, cassis and black licorice. Plenty of punch in the middle with a nice long finish. Tannins completely integrated it’s in its prime drinking window…93/100
The rug is soaking in Resolve and I hope to have a spectacular clean up before Traci gets home from her trip
