1993 Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Series- USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (8/7/2014)
Nice surprise here - cellared since release. Not sure I paid more than $10 for this. Fully resolved tannins, liquid velvet, sweet cab fruits and some earthy scents. First 30 minutes were a little funky but shifted gears soon thereafter. Actually have a few more and looking forward to these.
2010 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard- USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton (8/7/2014)
Great on pop and pour and enjoyed with dinner. After being open went into a weird place with a bitter/off taste. Next day wine was absolutely singing with subtle fruit, earth, soi bois and refined tannins. Really good and sorry to see the bottle empty.
2011 Champ Divin Côtes du Jura- France, Jura, Côtes du Jura (7/29/2014)
Round? yes Lacking acidity? yes Delicious? yes Oxidative style? no Me likey? yes
Actually paired really well with a duck ragu and arugula salad. My wife loved it and she is hard to please these days.
Love that Champs Divin 11. 12 not so much. But the 11 I thought had great balance, really nice flavor, and good if not enamel-stripping acidity. But hey, I have sensitive teeth. Have to use those baby soft toothbrushes and all.
“My wife…is hard to please these days.” Um, leaving that one alone…
First Jura chard I have tried that didn’t have any oxidation. This bottle would be considered flabby by some but was so delicious it didn’t matter. Not much acidity at all to me. How long ago did you try it Durstin?
Thanks for the notes. Fun stuff. I mowed through tons of the 93 CC Estate. I had just started really building a collection and that was one of the less expensive wines my wife and I loved. I think we continued buying through the 96 vintage. I wish I still had some. Glad it is still alive and kicking.
I really like 2010 for Oregon Pinot. For me, I always enjoy Shea’s young but I suspect the 2010 be around for another 10 years.
I am heading up their on the 25th. I have meetings in Bend but decided to fly into PDX so I could hand collect my Curmudgeon Cuvee. Not sure who am going visit other than 7 Hearts and Jim at Patricia Green. And hopefully Rick Allen if I can catch him in time.
Oh and I’ll be popping by the SE Wine Collective for sure.
