'89 Château Gruaud Larose; a beauty

Gladly paid the corkage at Le Parisien in Vancouver. Perfect cork, outstanding bottle. Decanted for sediment (almost none!), then drank over two hours. No funk in this Cordier import. Stayed strong.
Classic St. Julien nose with equal parts leather, tobacco, cedar, spices and black currants. If the palate had been as spectacular as the aroma I would have rated it even higher. Medium body and finish, this was a pleasure with dinner. (91 pts.)

Sounds good! I wonder if this was during the time when they made more medium-bodied wines? I remember the '96 being lighter than the '86 for instance, but I don’t think I have had any vintages in between. I remember reading some comments in Parker’s Bordeaux book, buy forget exactly what he said…

'86 and '82 were certainly not “light” in any sense of the word, at least not the bottles I popped this year. If anything, the '86 could use more time!

Nice wine, but for the money, I would spend the extra bucks for the '83.

Edit: Nevermind…saw you bought it off a list.

How punitive is the list @ Le Parisien?
