'70 Lynch Bages

I don’t drink much Bordeaux and know little about the various producers but this is a bottle I’ll remember. Stood up for 2 weeks before opening, decanted for sediment and not really sure what to expect. Color incredibly youthful, nose and palate started out angular and boring really. 30 min later this beauty just filled out with a floral nose I could just ponder all night. The palate has a dark fruit core and a lovely creamy mid palate texture that leads to a finish that goes on and on. And there is still tannin in the background if you look for it. This was a wine that was savored to the last drops in the glass. Full of life yet. Just lovely.

Given to me by a friend who’s dad bought on release. Who says Bordeaux is passé?

Indeed a wonderful wine. Drank my last bottle a number of years ago. I paid $5 on release for the stuff. Times have changed.

Great timing, Rick. I’m tasting this w/ my group in a few weeks.
Alas…I paid $7.37 for my btl. Looks like I was ripped off.

Tom, glad to oblige

I have very fond memories of 1970 Lynch Bages. Had one on my 40th at the departed Le Pavillon in DC. It (the wine) was only 15 and in its prime. Tasted a few times subsequently, it seems to be in slight decline but still excellent.
