In fact, punts typically aren’t that deep on many to Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rioja, Barolo. So this generalization is just flat wrong.
Moreover, very deep punts tend to go hand in hand with very heavy use of new oak. In wines from off-beat regions, when I see a deep punt, I know it means the wine is utterly spoofified and will taste like it could be from anywhere.
Right you are. Then my observation about punt ==> oak and spoofification is definitely on point. Deep punt tells you more about the marketing strategy than about the quality.
If the question extends to known categories but unknown producers, than my point about color is equally relevant.
If it’s my “preferred wine shop” I’ll ask for a description of the wine and hope someone there has tasted it. If that’s not going to happen most of the time it’s NOT going to be my PREFERRED shop.
Sebastian and Suzanne, nice friendly responses to a newcomer, the WB rep is more in question now.
Nasty and unnecessary responses, keep that stuff to yourselves.
Your reactions beg the question, when did you stop kicking your dogs?
I did not get his post. Really thought he was trying to troll the board with his couple of “list” threads. if you think my “are you for real” response was nasty then you are in for a ride. In regards to your loaded question I have to just say welcome another lawyer to the forum.
