375ml versus 750ml

Check that off the bucket list.

One nice thing about the general existence of 375ml’s as a format is that it creates the potential for mispricings! And of course that is a bilateral risk for the vendor and customer.

But hopefully the folks here know how to navigate that.

Seeing them at closeout is a sign that producer is less likely to do them in the future.

It’s a difficult category. Demand is limited. Costs are high. You need a pretty good production volume to justify it. Still, it’s usually just one or two wines out of a line-up.

Yeah, there’s one particular vendor that seems to generally forget to update 375s for new pricing, but I won’t spoil it for folks who’ve done the work of figuring that out. Tangentally, a couple weeks ago Zachy’s had a D-Mag of the 2019 Domaine de Chevalier rouge for $249, which I think was an artifact of the same kind of thing.

There are some really interesting 375s on WineBid right now. Last week I bought some 2001 and 2002 Montelena Estate and some 2009 Calon Segur. Still some Montelena there, lots of the '09 Calon Segur as well as 2009 Pichon Baron, 2009 Lynch Bages, some 90’s Opus One, and quite a few more, including a full 24-bottle case of 2009 Montrose that strongly tempted me . . .
