1687 BC was a great vintage in Canaan. Cool summer, then a long dry fall allowing the grapes to mature without excessive alcohols. Many Canaanite winemakers considered it the vintage of the century, though you know how they are, declaring two of those every decade it seems.

Poppy production was there in the region at this time. When the poppy capsule is cut a latex oozes out that hardens to form a resin that is a mix of alkaloids including morphine…Gary
