2026 La Paulee SF Vert impressions/Zuni Musigny & friends dinner

No notes, just some short simple impressions, as I was too busy trying to get as much Burgundy into my veins as I could! Great event…held at The Pearl in S.F. nothing better than starting your morning off with white burgundy reduction! Seemed more like a horse race than the last LP I attended, as there was a quick pace to taste through the tables, and you needed to jockey and kind of thrust your way through to get your pour…and some producers were VERY stingy on the pours! All the wines were excellent, really not any clunkers…some of the standouts for me were…Louis Jadot Puligny Les Folatieres 2018,14,09...the 2009 especially…super fresh and rich…loaded with energy and depth, well integrated reduction…went back mult times. Louis Michel Grenouilles 2017,14,09 Mags…especially the 2017…classic Chablis with crushed oyster and chalky limestone…all were more med bodied and creamy with wonderful orchard fruits…pretty lime blossom and sea air florals…always amazes me thes see no wood, as I get a dusty wood spice in these, and the creaminess is perfect. 2009 fresh as a daisy! Hubert Lamy Saint Aubin En Remilly 2017,16,14…LOVED these! Tons of minerals and creamy yellow pitted fruits…wet rocks and flint strike…very pure wines with nice depth and a classic dry extract, citrus oil…the 17 especially. Went back mult times. Delamotte BdB 2018,14,12 Mags…a nice palate refresher…HUGE beam of citrus squeeze, crisp orchard fruits with some tropical exotics…all had creamy gingery mousse, crushed rock edge to it…the 14/12 showing more salted caramel apples…really refreshing with the 12 winning the trio for me with some nice Krugish ox.

Reds…there were three standouts…Clos de Tart 2017,15,12…WOW wines! Dripping with gorgeous liqueured red berried fruits…smooth as silk, showing a nice mix of oak spice and exotics florals…not too heavy handed imo, there was an elegance to them, along with the power and structure…the 15 shined for me. Thibault Liger-Belair Richebourg 2015,10,05 from the holdings of the oldest Richebourg vines…what wonderful Vosne spice in these! Elegant and seamless wines, packed with such pretty exotic florals and spices…the 15 had a great line of acidity, the 10 more spicebox, the 05 little dryer, more forest mushroom…all long lifes ahead. Amiot-Servelle Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses 2018,17,15.…PRETTY wines! Very expressive and silky smooth…showing lacy strawberry and cherry fruits…some cluster spice…underbrush herbs, fresh lifted acidity…intoxicating wines that I wanted more of…like the lightness of the 17.

Dinner later…

Pre-dinner party in the hotel room…the 2008 Krug was just SINGING! Fresh squeeze acidity with CUT and classic touch of Krug ox…the tastiest caramel apple ever, with crushed geology and bright lemon…so good! The Bouchard a different animal…bright and zippy with citrus and white flowers…apple rings, smoked sea salt…a graceful almond liqueur mousse…more in tune than the 16 I just had a couple weeks ago…best glass was 8am next morning!

Dinner Zuni Cafe

2002 Henri Boillot Bonnes Mares - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru (2/28/2026)
This wine EXPLODED right on the pop-n-pour! Gorgeous strawberries and sous bois…very floral and expressive…loaded with dried cherries and sandalwood spice…silky smooth and enveloping…dripping with class…is this Bonnes Mares?? Rockstar all night long! (97 pts.)

2009 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru (2/28/2026)
A sleeping giant…this was very slow to show us what she has…deep dark red berried fruits…full bodied vintage…slowly showed us wonderful Chambolle spice, little sous bois…gorgeous candied raspberries, dry and tight mineral, red licorice and dried rose florals…gained and gained throughout the night, but never kicked it into top speed. Hold for further development! +pts (95 pts.)

2019 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru (2/28/2026)
This wine was gorgeous! Tons of reduction at first, that integrated in a wonderful white burgundy way…pretty ripe orchard fruits, Chass richness with a little tropical-ness…streaks of candied orange peel, crushed chalky minerality, lemon oil…bright and energized with citrus…very well integrated and showing that wonderful dry extract…this was the winner of the whites tonight! (95 pts.)

2014 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (2/28/2026)
Not as intense as previous bottles had…this one seemed kind of mellow for a 14…softer and creamy, with just a cruising along lime citrus attack, rather than the bursting pop rock party…still a lovely wine with that pureness of orchard fruits…crushed limestone, chalky minerality…wafts of flint strike and mint…pretty white flowers…maybe in a slumber right now…tasty wine, just not as explosive in emotions as I’m use to here. (93 pts.)

2008 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (2/28/2026)
White Musigny…we had the 08 Krug an hour before…this wine tasted like it without the bubbles! More ox than we would have liked, especially after tasting many killer whites at the Verts La Paulee…this was more caramel apples with a HUGE lick of sour lemon, which did freshen it…really intriguing wine as there was a density to it…loaded with minerals, but a little clunky…very cool to have tasted it, but kicked to the curb with the other stellar wines on the table. Left half the bottle for the waitstaff. (89 pts.)

I’m a big fan of all their Chablis but, if I could only get one, Grenouilles would be it, year-in, year-out!

Great notes and amazing post! Cheers :bottle_with_popping_cork::wine_glass:!

Great notes Buzz, I agree with your impressions especially Louis Michel/Amiot-Servelle/TLB/Lamy. The 14 Grenouilles was really great, had to circle back on that one. Bracing and deep. On the reds, the TLB Richebourgs were special; just beautiful, serious wines. A treat. Lastly the 19 Hudelot-Noellat Beaumonts, still all about the fruit at this stage, but what fruit it is!! Cheers

I should have revisited these…my first pass was quick, got a lot of candied sweetness…don’t even think I tasted the 12? Coming over from the Richebourg table didn’t help!:wine_glass:
