I think it goes to what kind of wines you generally enjoy? For example, I have never been really blown away by Sleeping Lady Vineyard, but I know many who swear by it. Maybe I haven’t tried a good enough product yet. So I focus on Kaanos, Rhad (here and there), Kodo, Hiero, and Asiana (although I passed this year - not drinking enough whites).

Only thing that gave me some pause this release is starting to see these on secondary for below list price.
Wondering if it reflects broader market trends vs the obvious very high quality wines.

It could also (partly) be that people bought 22’s they otherwise wouldn’t have in order not to get dropped before the 23s were on offer - there seemed to be a good amount of '22 KE, scarecrow and others on commerce corner at cost about this time last year

Sobering that one can buy multiple vintages (2018-2022) of the SVDs on Winebid for <$200 right now.
I went with Duo also. I thought Anjea might be the 3-pack to skip, but had a ‘19 Anjea that my wife went gaga for. So far I’ve really enjoyed all the single vineyard bottlings I’ve had.

Those prices are before the 17% buyers premium. You are also looking at wines that were released five and six years ago in some cases when the release prices were quite a bit lower.
The inaugural release was in 2016. Aneja was $195 and Rhad was $235
Certainly there is the potential to buy these wines below current release price, but I think you are overstating the savings to some degree

Fair points on buyers premium and the earlier year release prices but even taking BP into account, that’s about $205 for a 2022 Anjea and $210 for a 2022 Rhad right now. Pretty sure the 22’s were all $295 on release…?

The point is simply you were overstating the savings
I think Ted’s original point that there are many KE bottles on auction websites for $200 or less is still a good one. This wasn’t the case just 1 or 2 yrs ago. As KE increased production & got more bottles in the hands of more people, more people started flipping their wines, pushing down the secondary market prices of even the good vintages.
I don’t consider this a bad thing, just a new reality to be acknowledged.

Agree, but this was THE 2023 vintage so I took some. I like them to do something about the ridiculous shipping charges. Maybe if enough pause and don’t buy they will consider doing something about it.
And I think it’s more the new reality of the marketplace not a statement on this wine. This is a very special wine and those willing and able to buy it will continue to do so but times are chamging out there
Last week I got an email from another low production board darling that previously always claimed sellouts. He said he was trying to open new spaces on the list but wasn’t certain he could but if I reached out, he’d try to find me a three pack. A couple days later I got an email that I might be getting an allocation. Then I got the allocation and it was not one but two 3 packs accompanied by a statement that less than 10% of the production was still available and it would sell out by the end of day. It’s day three and it’s still available. My guess is he’s sitting on a lot more inventory than he’s willing to admit and he’d sell me as much as I wanted. The FOMO marketing strategy is dying and fast. Let’s see who takes the initiative to try something else first?

I was informed this past Friday that my wish request for Käänös was granted. Other than Aisana that I bought last year this will be my first Cab purchase from KE.

My Kaanos wish was declined unfortunately, but might trade or pick one up at auction seeing as recent vintages seem to go for close to MSRP now.
