2024 Paul Pernot Chardonnay Bourgogne Cote d'Or - best Bourgogne on the market for less than $1,000

Isn’t there a proverb about 3 stars worth more than 5 in the cellar?

Robert…thanks for asking. I will check it out - by reading my Chinese bible ) and if there is I will get back asap.

Is Alvina making all of the wines under her label as well as the Paul Pernot label?

I think her father and uncle are also involved in wine making at their domaine as is Paul but I heard she was doing much more of late; others may know more about the specific distribution of winemaking.

I have my eye on a 2024 Pernot BBM, to drink in 2034 (a big birthday for me). Does anyone have any experience with the Pernot BBM. Is it worth the step up? Will it be ready at 10 years old? Thanks.

It’s very good, although probably below the top level (JC bachelet, carillon, Leflaive). Ramonet can be just as good but has consistency issues.

For my part I am quite fond of Pernot’s Bienvenue. Pernot wines are about as close to signature-free as you can get. Like the rest of the range, the Bienvenue is very pure and lacking the polish and/or excessively exotic fruit traits (excessive to my personal tastes admittedly) that are so unfortunately prominent in many currently popular examples. My other favorite version is Ramonet’s- which does have a strong signature, but in pursuit of the inherent lean and tense elegance of the vineyard’s terroir.

10 years is a good rule of thumb to see it at maturity- but it often starts to open sooner, and it is much easier to approach in youth than most Batards and Chevaliers. So you will find it more forgiving than many grand crus whites should you wish to open it sooner than later.

If you found a nice deal on Bienvenue, I would go for it. Pernot’s wines do not disappear as quickly at release or at the price points of more fashionable wines- but they come up for auction at an older age far less frequently because most people who buy them are doing so to drink them. And note that due to their fan base and low supply- Bienvenue and Puligny Pucelles are usually the most difficult to source.
