We brought in our Syrah from Atlas Peak on Sunday. The quality of fruit is extraordinary but yields were down about 25%. This photo doesn’t really show the slope of the vineyard. It’s a bear to pick. The vineyard is split into two blocks (upper and lower) and each bin is hand walked up or down the hill to the truck.
Looks like a great place to break an ankle!
Luckily no injuries. Different crew this year and they parked the truck in a strange spot. Nice clean pick and pretty quick too.
10/8 - updated with a better photo.
And that’s a wrap for us. In comparison our last pick in 2023 was the first week of November.
This morning we brought in our cab from Stagecoach. Great fruit, but the pick could have been a little cleaner with a few leaves (I guess we are really spoiled by those Beckstoffer crews).
Congratulations!!!
I saw a piece on the local noon news today, showing some vineyards. The grapes they showed looked pretty dimpled, bordering on shriveled. I hope most everyone has everything in by now, with the prolonged heat wave we have going on.
Most of Sonoma is pretty much picked out by now, very little Pinot/Chardonnay still hanging out there at least. I’m sure there’ll be some stuff out there that feels the heat but in general the weather’s been lovely this harvest.
Thanks.
Valley floor is just about picked out. There is still quite a bit of mountain fruit out there.
We had very little desiccation - vineyard manager did a good job pre-heat wave.
That Stagecoach looks a bit shriveled too. Congrats and completing the harvest.
We did have some but it was minor, and it was sorted out on the line.
Where is the vineyard located?
Dundee hills AVA
Not sure I’ve located exactly on the map, but understand it’s a few hundred yards downhill from Maresh on Worden Hill Rd?

Yep. It is close to Winderlea and Holloran, which I think is the current owner.
Has your harvest been running late this year? Typical?
Harvest has been typical this year.
