2023 Scarecrow release (new vintage)

Thoughts on the big premium for the Mag. Always tempted and then surprised by how quickly it sells out.

Do you like to spend inordinate amounts of money on pretty things?

Unless that’s the reason I’d want another 3 pack instead. The wine is already going to age 30+ years, how much longer would one want it to go?

If it is birth year maybe, but agree that the 750s typically age for quite a long time

Bought a 3 pack. Prob have 15 bottles plus 7 Etain in cellar (plus an thou of others) and need to start popping them. I should have my head examined before I buy any more. Been buying between 6 and 15 bottles every year since 07. I almost dropped off last year but took 3 to stay on. My wife passed on the 22. For the 23, I got offered 6 plus my wife got 3 allocated. Great wine for sure but I’m getting long in the tooth - don’t live in a big city and a lot of my wine friends have moved on. And re-selling them means taking a loss since break even is 20-22% above my delivered cost. So $800 to net $640. I wonder how much of the $300+ juice is bought by non-boomers? That’s a stat that I’d want to know if I was a producer.

I never received an offer for this vintage. I did not purchase last year, so maybe I am no longer on the list? After being on the list for more than 10 years.

Scarecrow is very upfront about skipping an offer. If you don’t purchase the current offer you go to the back of the wait list. I had it happen to me about 6-7 years ago. Took about 3 years, at that time, to get another offer. I don’t agree with this policy, but it is their wine.

But it sounds like even if you muse about skipping a vintage you go to the back of the line.

What is the all in price with tax and shipping? I understand the shipping cost may vary depend, depending upon where you live.

In for the 3-pack today. Debating going back for a magnum, but will see how long they stick around while I mull it over.

They brought back the wood box. That’s cool. Still passing though.

Already on the secondary market - 2650 3 pk and 9995 3L (that is just retarded - 7200 from winery).

Well, I guess there is just a little bit of margin left for the flippers. At least they have held the price stable at 600 for 21,22, and 23.

Release-pricing wise, Realm The Absurd also qualifies for the “higher” category. And the Dana Estates bottlings as well. The 2023 Colgin IX Estate was priced identically to the 2023 ‘Crow, Between the latter two, while both are great wines, I prefer the ‘Crow.

Bought in 2019 (for 16 vintage?), never bought again, but got an offer last week, and still available.

There’s no list anymore for these guys, it’s like Harlan and a bunch of other, just an imaginary line to wait in so you can feel exclusive.

They did it to themselves. For the last few years, they have been raising price to squeeze every single penny of the secondary market into their own pocket. Now they’re at a price level that has hit demand hard and they can’t retreat on price. I would think they would stay here for a long time.

Why buy $600 Scarecrow when you can buy $400 first growth Bordeaux?

They priced themselves into the stratosphere. Glad I bought what I did but I won’t be chasing at these prices.

Same. They aren’t every day bottles and I have more than enough to satisfy when I feel like opening one.

I buy them because I can afford them and I like them better than most Bordeaux
