2021 Scarecrow Release Protocol

I think 10% over 2 years (with 1 of those years being a total loss) seems more reasonable/understandable vs 7% after 1 year and for a weak(er) vintage.

Probably not. Been on since 2013 and I’m still 2nd wave.

Seems like way more folks getting emails this year. Release prices are pretty close to auction prices now, so makes you wonder how many people passed last year…

Looking at Wine Market Journal, Ridge 2019s are going for ~159 to ~179 at auction (I did '19 not '20 because there’s no smoke taint controversy with 2019). Scarecrow '19 is going for ~600 to ~800 – with no obligation to buy as futures.

Obviously, the straight dollar amounts are much higher in the case of Scarecrow, but it seems the Ridge buyers are actually getting a worse deal than the Scarecrow buyers relative to market prices. They’re getting a smaller % discount and having to tie up money with Ridge for 2? years…

For me, the increase is still in the realm of very fair pricing on the futures, but the issue is that newer members have to buy the estate wines and have no guarantee of an allocation of futures. The irritating part is being told there isn’t enough to go around, then getting a full price offer two years later. On top of that, it’s pretty easy to source the estate wines locally for the same or better price, especially with no additional shipping cost.

And maybe this is just good timing, but First Bottle sent out an email today for 2020 MB for $250…

No email yet for me and I bought 2 three packs in 19. May reach out if I don’t get something soon. And yes checked spam folders

I’m not 100% positive when I joined the list to be honest. Is there a way to find that out somehow? I should have tracked that. It would likely be within the last couple of years.

Wait list or active list?

I skipped the 2016 and still haven’t made it back to the active list.

You can ask them

I’m surprised skipping one year would be the punitive, especially if you have purchased in the past. I would definitely call. I want to say I joined the waitlist in 2021 but I really can’t be sure.

Not a big deal. Many mailing lists are clear that skipping a vintage moves you to the back of the line. Given the predicted price, I probably wouldn’t be a buyer anyway.

I emailed them and apparently aol email doesn’t like their emails. Sent them my gmail address to use instead. They confirmed I’m 3/5

Neither does optonline.net. A lot of wineries have emails don’t make it there . I’m 3/5 and not sure if buying .

I skipped 2009 and got kicked off. Somehow managed to talk myself back on prior to the 2010 offer

Wow, I skipped one year and got sent to the back of the list and I’m still waiting for an allocation

Anyone get a postcard yet? We have mail being delivered to two addresses so everything is screwed up.

Haven’t seen anything yet here in FL

Mailer just landed here in CA for first wave. Price increase of $100/btl. Now $600/btl. My allocation is smaller this year, usually 6btls + wishlist for 3btls more, now its’ 3btls + wishlist for “additional”. Not sure what “additional” will amount to.

Magnums ($2400) and D-Magnums ($7200) are also available by wishlist.

Offer opens Noon Eastern time on Feb.28th until 11:59pm Eastern time March 4th.
