2021 German Vintage Report - Whats old is new...(UPDATED FOR VOM BODEN TOUR HIGHLIGHTS)

The reason why I say to drink it sooner than later is that because the cork is protruding and the seal has been broken, more oxygen will get into the bottle causing it to oxidize much quicker.

Unless the bottles were exposed to extreme heat for several hours I doubt the actual heat damage will hurt the wine.

Because of the RS in riesling I have unfortunately noticed it does not take much warmth to have a cork push up. And it seems to happen most frequently with mags, I am guessing because they are manually filled.

Same leakage issue

Wow, that’s crazy coincidence - also the Meyer Nepal. Where are you located? Do you know who imported these?

I’m on the west coast but they came from Piedmont wine on the east coast. I’ve received stuff from them in the past and didn’t have any issues. It might’ve been heat damaged with the same batch as yours

Ah, I’m sorry to hear that. I hope that Piedmont Wine Imports can compensate you for the mags.

At Hofgut Falkenstein, a new cellar strictly for bottle storage was built. We request that the wines be shipped in reefers, but we can’t control how the wines are handled at every step once they leave the winery.

I was lucky enough to taste Egon Muller’s 2021s from the Scharzhof bottling up through Spatlese last week, and it is a wow vintage for Scharzhofberger. Kabinett has a lightning bolt running through it, so much crazy young energy there, and Spätlese is pretty insanely flavorful but beautifully integrated and textural.

It’d be nice to taste Egon Müller’s 2021s. While his approach remains staunchly traditional, his wines have become exorbitantly expensive.

I have been telling you all, 2021 is a magical vintage, not just at Egon MĂźller. I also really loved the 21 Le Gallais wines.

I drank through the 2020’s last week with someone from the winery and he unprompted told me that the acid in the '21 kabinett would take the enamel off your teeth and most people wouldn’t enjoy it until it came out the other side.

Different strokes I guess…

Just to be clear, Robert is referring to another person, also named Lars, who works at Egon MĂźller.

Gilman has a few 21 scores out. He rated the Keller Schubertslay AR Auction Kabinett 100! Snippet below.

…This is as light as well water and hauntingly complex. I cannot imagine a better bottle of Kabinett. 2022-2070. 100

Congrats to KP and Julia Keller!

Just remember I told you first

I nicknamed it no limit!

Picking mine up next week. Maybe I should crack one open in The Selbach car park.

I tasted at Selbach-Oster last month and they also noted the 21’s will have high acidity.

Ripe acidity

what does “ripe acidity” mean? what is the malic acid / lactic acid ratio (before and after fermentation, if that is meaningful)?
