Got it, thanks. I know who they are, just did not know the shorthand.
NICE. Thanks for the datapoint here. I love Laurence’s wines.
Marc snagged us 3 cases at $18 per from ABC locally. They have 300 cases, I take 2, Marc gets 1.
Woohoo!
I always figured a quasi mass market internet wine retailer would need to stick to brands/bottlings that were already quite well known - Guigal, Veuve, Mondavi etc. - since the clientele was driven by the shipping proposition and ease of transacting. Sure, from K&L I’d expect a different SKU assortment, and Pegau (or its ilk) would be more in there wheelhouse. Anyways, I’m happy that Wilfred Wong of WDC is getting some cool wines for people in various shipping zones, and I mean that sincerely not snarkily/sarcastically. (I listened to podcast interviews with him a few times and he seems more attentive to the full spectrum of consumers, not just the WB)
PS: Charvin’s CdR is probably my favorite in that entire category! Pretty awesome that you are finding that there
This is like the first part of an SAT question…
I had the CdRh- Village Setier recently - and also a wine called Pegovino 2021 which I slightly preferred - a bit darker fruit, I think it is around 24.00
All great drinkers - and the Chateauneuf Reservee 2021 is a worthy follower to 2011, 2014 and 2017 - not as concentrated as 2015/16/19/20 but perfectly balanced and typical.
Oh, they had a surprisingly eclectic selection, at least out of whatever warehouse was assigned to my area, NY I think. I seem to recall that some of the Southern regions had much poorer selections. Even now, one can find some gems, just seldom with the discounts to justify purchase. I’m sure it never would have garnered anywhere near the amount of attention it did here if the only things on offer were Guigal and Veuve.
Well, none out here on the west coast.
So long as those people are in the 1% or can throw you business.
Preferably both.
I came across the 2021 Setier at Bottle Barn a couple of weeks ago. I found it a bit “meh” with a touch of brett. Maybe I’ll give it a try again.
Pegau loves brett!
Momma gotta eat!
It’s around in Seattle. Will grab some and report back, sounds right up my alley.
Lets see, worth some bottles at the 10€ its in europe for the ´19
Problem is on the last of @Robert.A.Jr |s recs I piled up 10 cases between 16/19/22 after one year … need to work some more on my resilience
Robert, that’s for sure! Here’s my exact note: “Some brett (not too surprising). Other than the brett, it’s decent. But better CdR available for the money.”
Just picked one up, along with a 2019 Dom. Pallus Le Clos De Pallus that was mis-marked at $10.99. Might need to pop the Maclura for tonight’s debate…
Please do and let us know where we can pick some up. I’d love to buy some! Thanks
In Seattle I’ve seen it at Esquin (always a few bucks more than other shops) in SoDo, which is where I got my bottle today, and at Leschi Market. I’m in Columbia City in the South End so don’t make it north of downtown much for wine shopping.
non-commercial post:
I have no financial interest in Pegau or in the sale of Pegau in the U.S. But I imported the wine for 35+ years and owner Laurence Feraud is one of my best friends. I also happen to love the wines and drink as much or more of them than any other wines, maybe tied with wines from the vineyard I own.
If anybody is interested in any Pegau or Laurence Feraud wine, please feel free to PM me with questions, requests, comments, bouquets or brickbats.
Dan Kravitz
Thanks Greg! Did they have more bottles at Esquin? Might head there tomorrow
