We must be buying similarly…my longest 2019s are Palmer, LLC, Canon, Montrose and VCC!!
You just need to throw in Cheval Blanc.
2019 Canon and Rauzan Segla were my back fills, but I pulled the trigger during 2020 EP when I saw the price increases.
I bought two more cases of Canon earlier this week this week, paid $5 more than what I paid for the cases I bought back in June/July 2020. Prices have crept up in the last few days. I think the in-bottle review and 100 point score rom Jane Anson is a good sign.
What did you pay ep?
I had bought two 2019 Canon in 2020, when they were first released, and then went back and bought some more when I saw the opening price of the 2020 Canon. I figured the qualitative difference was not worth the additional cost in price. Brought me back to the days when I was a Residential Real Estate Appraiser.
Did the same (at least heavy for me at 4 + 1 mag) for more or less the same reasons. Doubt we’ll see that pricing again in awhile (if ever).
I tasted my first 2019 Bordeaux last week, the Pichon Comtesse Réserve. It’s more Merlot heavy than the Grand Vin and this vintage has quite a bit of the old school PLL character, more so than the 2018. It also seems a bit darker and reserved than the 18, which has been drinking fabulously though it might slightly offend an Alfert-esque palate.
Should’ve bought more Palmer
So much for 2019 being the bargain bdx vintage. Garagiste just made a huge deal out of 2019 Pontet Canet at about $130. I bought a bunch of this on futures and feel like it was $80 or less then, which at the time actually felt like a good deal. Guess the tariff threat is over and people are flush with excess wine money.
Pontet Canet came out way too cheap. I understand that some of the other estate owners were unhappy with the price. Not surprising that the market has corrected the anomaly. Personally, I would buy Montrose for $135 or Canon for $115
The wins have started to come in, and I am pretty sure you are going to see plenty of prices going up, as the wines are reviewed and tasted.
2019 was the bargain vintage…But it was during futures. Given the high praise I don’t see how the prices will do anything but move to the 2018 and 2020 type levels.
I wish I would’ve bought more, including first growths and the Palmer that I missed out on.
I’d buy Canon for $115 if it were available in the US for that price. Cheapest (outside of Massachusetts) is $128. A store that yesterday was selling for $125 is now at $170.
Since I’ve already put it out there in a different thread, a personal recomendation, if a Swede is ever to be trusted (debatable), would be Brane Cantenac in 19. Next level stuff for them in my opinion.
Been tasting a week in Bdx now and both BC and Palmer have me at a loss for praise.
For my very own tastes (be they as they may) 18 is not close to 19 on a global vintage perspective. 18 can be quite impressive, but 19 is just so very beautiful. Many, many great wines.
I’d joke that the recent run on certain Bordeaux is a sign that Vinous put out their “pre-release” report, but from something Antonio said a few days ago, the reports aren’t finished yet, although they are close.
I got calon, Margaux, Barton, cantenac, ddc and VCC. Should’ve also gotten Palmer and brane cantenac apparently
For the same reason (the last), I also bought La Mission Haut Brion and Trotanoy.
Anyone had any good/bad experience on wine.com …I see a few more Bordeaux 2019s that I might buy but have never bought EP from them. Thanks!
This was an unusual opportunity. I tend not to buy futures, as they usually make little financial sense. But having made the decision to buy them, I loaded up on halves and magnums. Futures are the only time when you don’t pay a significant premium for them, particularly halves.
It is surprising that many arent buying PLL. I think it’s one of the top wines.
