2017 Rhys Aeris Bianco

2017 Rhys Aeris Bianco “Centennial Mtn” (12% alcohol)
100% Carricante grapes.

Light yellow color.
Fine nose of lemons, vanilla and Coconut. (Would have guessed a Chard)
Elegant, medium bodied, spicy red grapefruit entry led to a very long dry, floral, tropical minerally finish.
My first experience with this grape and a successful one.
LOVE the complex aftertaste!
Great structure and acid assures positive ageing for the next several years.
Marginally prefer this over the 2017 Rosso.
Really interesting, young, complex wine! [worship.gif]

Thanks again for the preview.

I’ll be testing this one tonight and the Rosso over the weekend. Sounds like I’m in for a treat.

With descriptors like that, I would have guessed a Rioja blanco!

Great to hear you enjoyed this Paul. I am extremely excited about Carricante in California and this is just the start.

Had half of a bottle tonight. It was delicious.
I get a hint of citrus peel with wax and melon on the nose. Definitely grapefruit on the palate. And otherwise very refreshing and persistent. This also has some of that chameleon character that I find in Carricante. One minute it’s one profile the next another. Would probably recommend serving it at 60F for the full blast of flavors. It’s much less exotic at lower temperatures.

Had another glass tonight with yet another for tomorrow. Still a hint of dustiness which I didn’t mention yesterday, otherwise this has firmed up to mostly show its citrusy side. Does give a little as it gets warmer and still delicious.

And the final glass tonight. Still showing well. While I’m not certain, I’d venture to say that this could very well be an AFWE favorite.

I drank through my sample bottle this weekend with similar results. Showing for me centered around grapefruit pith, lemon, framing some green melon and pear notes with a minerality throughout. I had the 2016 Aeris from Sicily last week and found more in common than different. I think this probably scratches the “crisp, aromatic white” itch better than the “Chardonnay/Burgundy” itch. I’m ok with that.

Cheers,
fred

Seems like happy hour might be creeping a little earlier every day we stay at home… cracked our sample bottle this evening.
Beautiful floral nose with lilac, rose, cherry blossom and lots of lanolin. Mixture of white peach sweetness and pleasantly mouth puckering acidity on the palate with a mineral filled finish. Hard to judge how much complexity this will pick up with bottle age, but I would think a little more time would do it good.
I think this is going to go quite well with homemade chicken soup simmering on the stove.
