The fruit profile of the wines we tasted blindly wasn’t exactly like gamay (more blackberry in the Rhones), but texture-wise the wines were quite close to top Beaujolais in a ripe year, and the grapiness was very similar.
How do you source some of these wines? I have looked at pretty much every store locally for months and can’t seem to find most of the bottlings discussed. Being in Texas, shipping from out of state reatilers is a no go, so that makes things even more difficult. Any tips on how to purchase producers like Gonon, Clape, Allemand, any Cornas whatsoever, etc. Northern Rhone wines seems to be lacking in Texas. The bigger names like Chave - which is way out of my price range - are much easier to find, maybe because of the price?
It’s highly possible I just don’t know which stores/online sources to check out to source theses wines. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
You didn’t mention it but I assume your using winesearcher.com? Gonon is likely sold out already (what’s there is marked up significantly), Allemand has not been released so keep checking, and there is plenty of Clape available currently. That said send me a pm too if you have any tips Ryan or anybody else that has a password for Juge
oof. just saw Posner released his 15 juge. $400 for 750 and 1k for the mags. Wonder if his old clients that purchased each year still get it at the regular price.
Cuz we’re all broke/saving up for 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape. A friend who talked to the winemaker at Chateau de Beaucastel that it’s reminiscent of the 1990 vintage.
It is a prima facie mistake ever to avoid Charvin, particularly in a strong vintage such as 2015. Both his 2016 and his 2017 are also going to make people happy. Do you really need to pay your mortgage?
I got the same alert and it was sold out by 7 am ET when I woke up. 2 am to 7 am is too long a time. If the wine wasn’t gone already, someone was up and pounced on whatever small number of bottles were left when Verve posted it. In any case that was not a good price.
Any views on how the whites are in 2015 - looks to be a warmer vintage so will whites not be too rich? Got an offer on some Chave red/white, and am pondering on the white…
