This is key. I know many wine lovers who went super big on a bunch of wine when they’d only tasted a smattering of stuff. Once their experience broadened, they had a cellar full of wine they didn’t really want anymore.
In comparison, a different wine friend joined a very diverse wine group with deep cellars before he’d started building a cellar and let those experiences shape his buying. He also nibbled with his purchasing, learning from the rest of us that over-buying a given type of wine happens a lot.
