2014 VCC is really good.
Thanks for the note on 16 Baron. On my list to buy, along with HB and LMHB.

Not everyone enjoys playing around with numbers. But those who do, here are top 20 CT rated wines, only based on reviews in the last 24 months (and at least 5 reviews).
Try the Mouton. Even for such a great vintage, it is transcendent. I tasted both ‘82 and ‘86 Mouton young, and this is better.
Nice! Glad you enjoyed it, Jon. We have a few, and it is going to be difficult to keep them sideways.
Way to go - Calon Segur for the QPR!
What started as 2014 vintage review has suddenly turned into full-fledged Bordeaux backfill for me Just got a 6 pack of 2016 HB.
Interesting. Haven’t had Cos in a while and while I appreciate the fruit aspect of Cos, it misses the energy and tension I find in great Bordeaux, for me, but haven’t had one post-2010. It reminds me of a Diet Coke left on counter for a day…still tastes like Diet Coke, but the loss of carbonation leaves it a bit flat for me.
May need to grab one based on Keith’s note of post-2010 vintages, as I can sense great potential for a grest wine to be made, it has just been unrealized in modern Cos I have tried post-2000.
I think you will be very happy with that purchases.
A good description. The 2009 though had triple doses of flavoring.
I had a Mouton Rothschild when it was way too young and it was amazing. I recently drank a Haut Brion too. The HB was much more nuanced and detailed but I tend to like Pauillac wines more. Hard to draw a meaningful comparison between the two as they were drank 4-5 years apart in far different environment.
I’ve also had a ton of Pontet Canet 2014 - By far the best value. In general I think it’s a a gem of a vintage for the money!
I felt like last week I could find 2014’s for a song, but now 2014 Calon Segur is the same price as 2016. Am I just misremembering? haha
yes not even seeing much supply. word is out
Mark,
I opened a '16 Mouton shortly after it was delivered, probably 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I was only able to get 750’s and that bottle was shut down pretty hard. The 4 notes in CT for 2023 average 99pts, and coupled with your experience, I will gladly open another one soon.
Not surprised it has closed down. I was not planning to open another bottle for five years, it is so incredibly powerful, and yet holding things in reserve that it will take time to resolve. But its greatness is obvious, and the finish is as long as I have experienced in a young Bordeaux.
So I pulled a bottle of ‘16 Mouton to have this weekend. Curiosity got the better of me and I decided to Coravin a taste. Holy Sheetz this is good. Just like the Baron, it has a ruby red color and a fragrant nose of red licorice and cherries along with some sea breeze. Lots more fruit on the palate, smooth tannins and again that fresh and uplifting acidity. This is just gorgeous. I do not plan on decanting this, it drinks too well now.
Thanks Jon. This conversation has made me go back and start backfilling 2016. LMHB, VCC and Palmer are next on the list.
Thanks for taking one for the team, Jon.
Looks like will have to pull a bottle.
Not from the Southwold Tasting as far as I can see, but an appetiser here.
Great to see VCC doing well. Very consistent with my experience. In fact it was the wine that got me interested in 2014 vintage. But that may have set the bar too high
