2013 Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon - Rutherford: The nose is huge with dense blackberry jam, vanilla cream, and sweet licorice, with just a touch of lift from an almost chambord note on the back end. The palate is a bit warm and a touch sweet, with a cascade of dense black fruit, licorice, the sweet smell of oak char (or is it singed Alder, John Morris?), and blackberry bramble. Solid tannins and a decent bit of acid provide structure to what is really a big, expressive wine. Perhaps a touch too massive, but carrying its weight well enough. A decent job of being big without fat, dense without too much cloying sweetness. But buyer beware, this is most certainly not a classic style. 93
