2012 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne

Yep. Better than Dom and Comtes at the same price. Cristal is $300 now too

Exactly my thoughts.

Aka drink them when no one is around. :face_in_clouds:

Don’t understand the noise about 2008 CdC, we as the distributor had a $10 increase over 2007 and still sold it to restaurants for under $100. I will dig up wholesale on 2012 as I don’t know it off hand and edit this. Agree with Alan, $280 is a pass.

2011 wholesale is $155. Havn’t seen FOB on 2012 yet. Will share once submitted.

The biggest issue is Kobrand doesn’t police grey market, so their portfolio gets undercut all the time from CdC to Setti Ponti to Jadot to Tenuta San Guido.

You can still get splits ~$80

Where? Cheapest I see is Flatiron at $99

I’d have said the same about Krug’s vintage cuvĆ©es a few years ago, but it’s very quality and vintage dependent to me now. I don’t think the last few vintages of Krug’s GC or MV have been particularly spectacular. Cristal is just making better stuff, though it’s more expensive (and your comment was about value). I appreciate Roederer not releasing an 11 because it didn’t meet their standards, for example.

Personally, if I were looking for value it would be to houses like Vilmart or Peters. I’d rather have Coueur de Cuvee and Chetillons at current pricing. It’s not as if there’s a question about them aging as is often suggested about grower champagne.
Alternatively, Grand Siecle is basically Salon and another great value option from a big house.

We’ve all had to take some allocations we don’t necessarily want.

Sales, it’s really not all that uncommon (at least to this point). I believe M Chang just posted about one recently. I didn’t check because I’m stuffed with them right now.

I saw that offer for the '02 Salon mags, wow. Crush sent an email the other day for mags of '08 Comtes at $865.

I do. I remember '02 mags at a bit over $300. That has been a phenomenal Champagne since release. '06 was the real sleeper IMO. Another one that for my palate has always drunk great and it seemed like every 6 months there would be another offer, at a cheaper price. There were some great deals on that in '17/'18 timeframe. Magnums were around $250, $750’s below $100. The '06 was the best value, big-house Champagne I ever bought.

Or at least when you aren’t around.

Now we’re off topic, but I completely agree that Vilmart’s CdC and Peters’ Chetillons are more-than-worthy substitutes for the big house prestige cuvees. I’m kinda surprised Chetillons hasn’t exploded in price the way so many other Champagnes have.

Surprised by the negative comments about 2005 Comtes. I had it a few days ago, and drinking beautifully.

I don’t think it’s that far off topic. :grinning:

I also chose Vilmart and Peters specifically because they see themselves as big houses at this point. And, really, what’s the difference between Pierre Peters and Salon? I think the perception is that one buys big house champagne because of the uncertainty of how grower champagne ages, but Vilmart and peters (and others) have shown to age just fine, so I view them as substitutes at this point.

I’d toss out Heidsieck Blanc de Millenaires if you are looking for a bigger house prestige cuvee that delivers and comes in around $160.

Yesterday I was told by someone ITB that '12 Comtes is going live on 11/4 in the UK. I did not get any info on the US release date. My guess is that we will see offers from Envoyer and WHWC before the UK launch.

Hopefully whwc offers it for 125 again :joy:

That might be wishful thinking, but I do expect Envoyer and WHWC to have the best prices in the US.
