2012 Pecchenino San Luigi Dolcetto

What a blessing that the market still undervalues so many varieties and regions. This wine is a straight up steal at $13. Initially rich, sappy berry fruit with earth, blanched almond and pepper spice notes before it gains focus and delineation with aeration. Dark bitter cherries emerge as blood orange and violets notes come and go. Good acidity and deceptive tannin structure provide a solid frame to hold it together. Ignore the bottle cost - the weight, texture and density suggest a wine two or three times the price.
