2012 Hobel Wines

Being released soon. Wondering if anyone has tried these.

Carrie Bowman I believe posted on FB how good the 2012 was. I am sure they are but haven’t tasted.

Not the '12 but I had the '10 and loved it, but I like Scarecrow, so what do I know?

I haven’t tasted but it looks to get a 20$ price increase though ground shipping is now included.

Here’s my note on the 2010…

Splash decanted. Wine smelled like fresh cut fence boards in the glass (it’s a good smell). Black cherry, but somewhat of a light to medium bodied cab. Not nearly as full as I would have expected. Tannins were light to medium and the finish was medium. Will be interested to follow the development of this wine over the next several years. I passed on the 2011 due to the weak vintage, but may have to dive back in on the 2012s. Elegant, drink over the next 10 years. VERY GOOD.

Should we ask Paul for his tasting notes? deadhorse

Only if he takes off his skirt. [stirthepothal.gif]

Yeah… the 25% increase in cost is causing me to think twice.
I’m sure it’s very good, but there’s a lot of good 2012 juice out there.
$5 or even $10 wouldn’t have bothered me too much, but $20 is a pretty steep jump… especially for a retiree on a fixed income.

What was last years cost?

Last year was $75, with $28 shipping on 6 for me - this year $95 - steep increase, even with shipping included. Not sure I’m in on this one.

About the same price as the Rivers-Marie a Panek.

The price increase is a bummer. I loved the '11, so much that I back-filled my original order of a 6 pack with another full case. I was holding out for this and RM to be my QPR vanguards in Napa Cab. I guess those days are gone forever… I’ll take some, because the '11 Hobel was probably my favorite domestic '11 across the board.

I haven’t tasted, but no doubt will this be great. The Hobel’s have stumbled upon a special site, and in TRB’s hands, magic will happen. I’m in, but unfortunately, not as deep as I had planned. Still looking forward to having this in the cellar though.

No way I’m paying another $20 for this when I just picked up 2011 Corison for $68 per bottle. Just sayin’…

Stop the Merry-Go-Round, I want to get off. Maybe then will I realize how silly the Merry-Go-Round really was.[wow.gif]

*Note to self: I have got to start drinking more Washington State Rieslings…

Too many good wines for less money. I was very surprised when I saw the price.

The price increase dose give me a moment of pause. Since they own the vineyard, that (in my little mind) should be a fixed cost that does not add almost 30% to the cost of fruit and then the bottle. Also, glass, corks, labels, etc. should not be contributing to this much either. Yields were also up in 2012.

My opinion is they are riding the good press and are tying to get a little more coin. Nothing against them at all as Cameron and Bahaneh have exhibited nothing but great customer service and provided a damn fine wine over the years.

I too am on the fence with this, but I am leaning towards passing based on the price.

We just wanted to clarify that we do not actually own the vineyard, we just buy fruit from the same portion year on year, and yields for us were actually down in 2012 as we did cluster thinning before harvest to ensure the highest quality wine. In 2012 we only have 213 cases total. Thanks, Bahaneh and Cameron

Perfect response and I learned something.

This makes the buying decision quite a bit easier.

Had the 09 recently, really good youthful wine with ripeness but a nice cool acid backbone . Had no expectations going in as I’ve never tried the wines before. I’m sure the 2012’s are great.
