2012 Barcelona Trip

My wife and I will shortly be going to Barcelona.

Looking for tips on great restaurants, tapas bars and perhaps a great wine store or two where I might buy a case of wine to bring back in my new Wine Check!

Thanks in advance folks!!! [cheers.gif]

Dear upcounty friend,

Please read the entire thread here… https://wineimport.discoursehosting.net/t/barcelona-and-madrid-restaurants-recs/39348/14

Regards,
your downcounty friend.

In addition to the other thread, worth noting that you are commuter-train-ride away from Girona and El Cellar de Can Roca. Certainly worth a day trip for lunch if you are there for multiple days. Others places we enjoyed included La Tomaquera, a snails restaurant near Montjuic, and Pla, more straightforward food in a very atmospheric space (think west village) that was much much better than it should have been given how much English we heard.

Steve:

I will be posting our dining notes from our Spain trip (including Barcelona) later this week. I hope they will be useful; I cannot help but smile as I recall and write about our meals there, the food was simply amazing.

Cheers,
Andrew

You must try Cal Pep for lunch. Unbelievably good. It’s a tiny place around the corner from the Picasso museum. Get there right when they open, otherwise you’ll wait a while.

We had a great trip folks. Highlights for meals were Alkimia, Bar Mut, and Passadís del Pep. Overrated, in my opinion were Cerveceria Catalana (just ok tapas, not great) and Arola (very good, but not anything close to the originality or the great tastes of El Bulli – too uneven imo).

Thanks for all the help folks.

Also, Lavinia, the wine store on Diagnal is now closed (still open at the airport and in Madrid it seems) :frowning:

Thanks for reporting back! Glad you had a good time!

Andrew

Cal Pep was one of my favorite meals. If you can, sit at the counter infront of him. Also in Boqueria , the stand Universal is great. He had a very flat meal with bad service at Moo in the beautiful Hotel Omm (but I do recommend going to the bar for drinks).

Fwiw, my notes of our trip are: https://wineimport.discoursehosting.net/t/dining-in-spain-madrid-toledo-segovia-aranda-de-duero-haro-san-sebastian-barcelona/57641/1
