2011 Leitz

winemaker Josi Leitz

On Thursday winemaker Josi Leitz from the region Rheingau was in town to present his 2011s at the wineshop “Planet Wein” at Berlin Gendarmenmarkt, again it proved that 2011 is a great, great vintage. Everything is on the right place, impressive harmony, perfect play between fruit&ripe acidity and BIG drinking pleasure. Of course we have not the high acidity like last year.

2011 Eins-Zwei-Drei Riesling trocken
According to Josi the best “Eins-Zwei-Drei” he has ever produced. No winemaker poetic I believe him. Fresh, tangy with 12,5%.

2011 Rüdesheimer Riesling trocken
Stunning quality for 13 Euro. Shows harmony and quite crisp acidity. Good length. 88/100

2011 Magic Mountain Riesling trocken
Lovely perfume. Juicy with a dense fruit and in general with more fruit than the previous wine. Fine

2011 Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling trocken
Closed and difficult to taste.

2011 Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg Riesling trocken
It´s a killer! Outstanding structure and such subtle. Lovely ripe acidity, bombastic minerality, length with no end and again this stunning harmony. WOW 93+/100

2011 Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling trocken
Very sublime with great finesse and quite tender at the moment. Almost like a Mosel Riesling based on its schist soil

2011 Rüdesheimer Berg Kaisersteinfels Riesling trocken
Based on 80 years old vines and 12g RS. Perfect harmony with a subtle minerality in the background. Subtle play between fruit and acidity. 92/100

2011 Rüdesheimer Kirchenpfad Kabinett feinherb
Perfect food-wine especially to spicy kitchen. Real crowd-pleaser! YUM YUM 89/100

Cheers,
Martin

Thank you for the notes, Martin. It sounds like a very fine vintage for Leitz.

Prost!

Johannes has been on a roll since 1999. I have been consuming his 2001 QBAs with great pleasure over the last 2 years. The Roseneck Spatlese is a mandatory annual purchase, and my wife’s second favorite Riesling of all. I have been greatly impressed by his dry wines since 2002, when I first tasted the Rottland trocken.

YES, the 2002 Rottland is also a legend in Berlin due to its touch of botrytis or Wachau-Smaragd-style of Riesling.
