2010 Rhys Pinot Noir & 2004 St Cosme Cote Rote

  • 2010 Rhys Pinot Noir San Mateo County - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, San Mateo County (9/10/2016)
Early on the fruit was bouncing out of the glass. Ripe red and blue fruit on the nose. In time the aromatics became more subtle with more emphases on darker tones. The palate has ripe fruits. Cranberries and cherries. Pretyy high on concentration. Medium/high acid. Tasty and a bit simple. I think I would drink now to 2018. The gambler should let this sleep for another 5-7 years. (91 pts.)
  • 2004 Saint-Cosme Côte-Rôtie - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie (9/6/2016)
Nice wine. I was crossing my fingers in hopes it would be a surprise. Initially the aromatics had a bourbon barrel/chocolate smell. Thankfully that passed and the aromas became brighter fruit and earth based. On the palate I got currants and pomegranates. Super high acid. The finish is a bit sour. Nice now but not sure it will improve. (89 pts.)

Cheers,

Jason

Not bad for an appellation blend. Helps confirm the fact that I should probably wait years and years on the SVs.
