2009 Joseph Drouhin Morey St. Denis

I just ordered a bottle of this village wine along with nine other wines and wondered if anyone here has sampled it yet. Impressions?

I’m interested too, Jane, as I bought a couple of bottles a few weeks ago. If I open one before we get any notes, I’ll let you know what I think.

I was underwhelmed but I likely opened it too soon after getting off the boat.

I’m a fan of the '09 CdN Villages fwiw.

Thanks for the responses.

I ordered one to try from a Zachy’s sale not too long ago. I wasn’t impressed the first night, thought it rather clumsy and four-square. But the second night it smoothed out into a silky, elegant wine of quite good quality for a villages. So my advice is give it a long decant, or else save half the bottle for the next day.

Cheers.

Thanks Ian. Sounds like I gave up on it too quickly. “clumsy and four-square” exactly matches my experience.

I’d given up, too, and was pleasantly surprised by the substantial change in the wine’s character. Don’t know enough about Drouhin’s village reds to put it into perspective, value-wise, but really enjoyed its class and style the second day.

That sounds encouraging. Thanks for responding.

It’s very much my pleasure.
