I don’t have any experience with really old Prum - certainly not anything like what Stuart Pigot reviewed for Cigar Aficianado - but recently I was given a bottle of the 1993 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese, as a gift, and it tasted like it was bottled yesterday.
Maybe the best white wine I’ve ever had, and, if not, then easily in the Top 5.
Anyway, it would be a real tragedy if Prum started messing with tradition and ended up playing Russian Roulette with premox.
An epic tragedy.
Where is this premox talk coming from? Has anybody had any problems with any German Riesling producer and premox, let alone Prum and premox?
To be clear, I understand why people are saying it, I just question whether such comments have any reality-based foundation.
I have had no issues with German Riesling premox. Now poor transport/supply chain is another matter entirely (though Skurnik/Theise wines have been good for me - my issues have been with damaged Wiest portfolio wines through a relatively local distributor).
It’s not like Prum wines have zero sulfur these days. For the most part they still stink like Vesuvius compared to other producers’ wines.
