2009 Fevre Bougerots Cote de Bougerots versus Buisson-Charles 2008 Meursault Goutte-d'Or

I love, love, love, pissing people off who think “versus” or comparing one wine to another is somehow reducing the beauty of wine to a mere drag race. Go drink your six bottles a year you fascists. Same for those of you who criticize someone like Gerhard-whomever who puts on tastings where I actually take notes about his notes and make purchases therefrom and learn therefrom. Every time I muse about Chambertin >>VERSUS>> (oh sorry) Beze I go to Gerhard’s TN’s… “Too many wines.” “A waste.” Not even.

OK on to my comparison. True story. My conure (a small parrot) tonight knocked over a big glass of the Fevre and two hours later a medium full glass of the Goutte. I was sadder when he knocked over the Fevre. I was very very tempted to open a second bottle of the same wine (my second and last bottle; 2009 so maybe not a bad idea). But I didn’t.

And that’s all we need to know!!!

ok ok ok. Fevre without premox hits my brain real hard as well as my senses. Buttery without any butter. Air with substance. Before tonight the last Fevre I had was recently a 2002 Clos without premox. To die for. I think the only Meursault I would ever buy is a very underpriced Coche Dury and that would be just to taste the winemaker’s hazelnuts. Wait I did not mean that…

Update: the Meursault is starting to show its stuff. But it’s big rich almost blowsy stuff.

My conclusion:

Do not drink Chablis then Meursault. Or vice-versa.

Overall the Fevre just kills me and the Meursault, while getting wonderfuller and wonderfuller, is someting that many wines can give me the same experience, both red and white. Meal in a glass, a wonderful thing. But not unique.

Verdict: Giants in six games over the Cardinals but an important Giant will be injured raising anxiety about the World Series.

Assuming that “to die for” (clos 2002) or “kills me” (Bougerots 2009) means you like the wine, I conclude you like the Chablis and, while the Meursault is not up there, I take it it was nevertheless wonderful.
You drink well! Your parrot also seems to have developed a taste for fine wine. Thanks for the note.

Thanks for the note (sort of!) on the meursault. I haven’t touched my case of it yet and sounds like it needs more time. Looks like I should start to roll the dice on my case of the 02 fever clos though.

I take it Dan that you are not overtly afraid about premox and are willing to give your white Burgundy some age. I try and do the same…with crossed fingers (unfortunately, my case of Fevre clos is 2008 and my Buisson Charles are even younger…

Were you pissed as a parrot ?

Just taken the view on the fevre that I’m beyond the pox phase now ie if they’re gone they’re gone!
