Last night burgers with my kids, wife and my sister and brother-in-law. We had a couple of reds. A very nice 2009 Fleurie from Michel Chignard “Les Moriers”. Tasty stuff. Then a wine that totally captivated me.
2009 Drouhin Chambolle Musigny Les Baudes
The nose is complex pinot noir at this point. Red fruited with some floral aspect underneath. On the palate, the wine expands with time to show big crunchy fruit. More like Bonne Mares to me. Fabulous spine underneath this one. Floral finish. Fabulous length. Not Grand Cru length to me but impressive none the less. This is profound for what it is. Probably the best of the Chambolle 1ers from 09 I have tasted. (Haven’t had the Amoureuses from Drouhin however or any of the ultra expensive ones)
I have had very few Les Fuees, Les Cras or Les Sentiers in the past that are as good as this wine. (Also very much like Bonne Mares) That includes JF Mugnier and Roumier. It is that good.
