2009 Bertagna Vougeot 1er Cru ‘Clos de la Perriere’

I rarely see this producer mentioned, on the board or in the major press. When I do see notes, they are often less than positive. I have found the wines consistently good and good values.

Medium ruby color. The aromas offer fine intensity of black cherry with a light nicely green undertone and a hint of white pepper. There is a touch of alcohol on both the nose and the palate that is a little distracting (13.5%). The texture is excellent, medium light in body but mouthcoating and silky more than velvety. The finish is long and intricate, the green now has almost a tiny hint of eucalyptus, not at all expected but not out of place. Rated 93.5. This wine seems at a young maturity, I’ve got a bottle left, am thinking another couple of years, with a point of improvement likely.

Stopped by the domaine in Vougeot this summer. Tasted a few wines including a premier cru from Vougeot. The lady in the tasting room was not very cheerful. She seemed to be annoyed by any visitors.

The wines were good, but not amazing.

They have great holdings. Claire Forestier was one of their vigneronnes for a while, but I rarely see the wines in marketplace.
